Izmir is the third largest city in Turkey. Where Istanbul comes first, then Ankara, and then Izmir. This arrangement depends on the number of residents and the importance of the central cities. Izmir is one of the most important tourist and commercial destinations in Turkey. As a matter of the state’s awareness of this importance, it worked to make it a scientific front as well, so it established 4 scientific universities with it. There are also 5 other private universities.

Among these universities is the University of Izmir Kateb Şelebi, which was established on December 10, 2010. The university quotes its name from the Ottoman writer, geographer and history scholar Shalabi, who lived during the seventeenth century and left behind many historical and geographical monuments.
